Today has been a dark and gloomy day. Clouds, drizzle, rain.

Luckily, the wee beasts said they wanted to grow flowers, so we decided to have an adventure at the local garden center. After a raucous thirty minutes on all of their playground equipment samples, we headed inside to find the perfect flowers for beasts. That means, ones that grow FAST.

But before we made it to the flower and seed section, we passed PRETTY THINGS.

I’m a sucker for PRETTY THINGS. It’s part of my nature as a designer to be attracted to them. Like a cat to shiny objects, I can’t pull myself away.

These three things jumped out at me, yelling “Spring is almost here. No, really. It is! Just look at us and try to deny it.”

Well, I can’t deny it. And I might not be able to deny myself of these spring-alicious objects. There might be another trip to the garden center to bring these home soon.

Welcome mat with huge colorful flowers

"Welcome, Spring" is what this says to me.

Look at those big, beautiful flowers! Now, I’m not really a fan of flower prints, but this is undoubtedly one of the happiest welcome mats I have ever seen. I might even welcome census workers, door-to-door salesmen and Hari Chrishnas in for tea if I had one of these.

happy polka dot flower pot

Polka dots make me want a polka party!

Polka dot and geometric prints are more up my alley and this is just too cute for words. Don’t polka dots just scream happiness and fun? And look at the cute little ruffle around the top and attached plate. Looks a bit like a flower, and I’m okay with that.

large teacup shaped flower pot

Would you care for a cup of flower tea?

And my absolute favorite…the teacup planter. Or coffee cup, if you prefer. I love the colors and attached plate. And this is huge! You could fit several plants in it and use it as the centerpiece of your table. To play off the tea idea, I would have to plant something like chamomile or mint in it.

Even as I sit here listening to it rain outside, I can’t stop thinking about getting out to garden. Spring showers do bring Spring flowers, after all.

Remember that missed lunch I mentioned in my last post? The one that I missed because of a sick kid? Well, I made up for it today. This is the kind of liquid lunch I love!

I only have a photo of the final result, because, well…I was enjoying myself so much that I forgot to get the camera out and take pics. You know how that goes. Don’t pretend you wouldn’t have done the same thing!

Why was it so indulgent? Black cherry chutney! Oh yeah. Sounds delicious, doesn’t it?

It might not look so yummy here, but trust me, it’s a gorgeous, I-just-want-to-bathe-myself-in-it way. Not that The Doc would appreciate it if I were purple. It’s OPI‘s deep red-purple with a subtle sparkle to it. Go check it out. I love their colors and the names are divine!

Of course, liquid polish is only the end result of the “liquid lunch.” The part that I missed (remember…the part where I was so distracted to get out the camera) was the warm, bubbly swirling water in the foot soak. Oh, and the foot and leg massage. Ahhhh, yes. Add the massaging chair and good company of a friend. It doesn’t get better than that.

If I could enjoy that every day, I might actually remember to stop and have lunch.
